2016 Mayors Breakfast Address

Forward momentum on the development of Ajax and Pickering was the topic of conversation at the 2016 Mayors’ Breakfast, held at Deer Creek Golf Clubs in Ajax. The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade welcomes the mayors of our two municipalities annually to update the local business community on their plans for the coming years.
In his remarks, Ajax Mayor Steve Parish shared an update on important international investments that will reshape downtown Ajax. Specifically, Mayor Parish addressed the construction of Pat Bayly Square and Central Park Ajax. The new buildings will include retail, office and residential spaces and Pat Bayly Square itself, named for the first Mayor of Ajax, will provide a space for the public to congregate as well as a water feature that will act as a family ice skating surface in the winter months.
Development was on the mind of Mayor Dave Ryan of Pickering also. In his remarks, Ryan spoke to the need to get behind the long-discussed Durham Airport in Pickering as well as the land currently for sale along the 407 in Seaton. Mayor Ryan also spoke about the plans afoot for the development of Durham Live, a multifaceted tourist attraction that will include hotel, conference centre, arts centre, film studio and possibly a casino.
In addition to hearing updates from the local mayors, attendees dug deep for our not-for-profit recipient Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre and collectively donated $1350 to this worthy Durham Region charity.
Once again, the presenting sponsor for the event was OLG Slots at Ajax Downs. Event sponsors for the event were Bell, Digipix, Jones-Dooley Insurance Brokers, RBC, Safran Messier-Bugatti-Dowty and Wilson Vukelich, LLP.
