Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade Celebrates 25th Business Excellence Awards

AJAX/PICKERING, October 24, 2019 – The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade has announced the recipients of the 2019 Business Excellence Awards. This year’s celebration was particularly special, as it was the 25th anniversary of the awards and the Board of Trade is entering its 65th year.
More than 250 guests came together at Ajax Convention Centre on Thursday, October 24, 2019 for the awards, which recognize businesses for excellence, community support, leadership, and sustainability, as well as individual business achievements.
“Our 2019 nominees represent the best of our thriving business community,” said Christine Ashton, 2019 Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade President and a partner and lawyer for Wilson Vukelich LLP. “The Board of Trade is proud to be able to recognize the achievements of such an exceptional group and we applaud tonight’s winners. In recognition of our 25th Business Excellence Awards, the Board of Trade was also thrilled to look back at the history of the event and celebrate the growth of the community. We are proud of our history and the opportunities that lie ahead for our local businesses.”

BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD (40+ EMPLOYEES CATEGORY): Ontario Power Generation
SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPION: Green Storage
BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD (NOT-FOR-PROFIT/CHARITY): Girls Inc. of Durham
BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD: Ian McCutcheon of SERVPRO Ajax
In addition to our regular juried awards, the Mayors of Ajax and Pickering also present Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Rob Albis of Amici Trattoria was the City of Pickering’s choice and the Town of Ajax honoured Andrew Neary of Drinks & Dragons.
As is practice with all signature Board of Trade events, and in support of the social infrastructure of our community, donations were collected on behalf of one of our not-for-profit members. The Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation was the recipient of a $1,780 donation.

The Business Excellence Awards were established in 1994 to recognize achievements and excellence in business performance, while the Business Person category was added in 2004. An independent panel of judges evaluates the nominees and all nominees are selected by their business peers.
