AJAX, May 24, 2019 – The Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario spoke about the government’s open for business plan during an address to Durham Region’s business leaders. There was a crowd of approximately 450 guests for the ‘Business Lunch with Premier Doug Ford,’ organized by the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade, Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, and Whitby Chamber of Commerce, on May 21 at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility.
Premier Ford used the opportunity to make an announcement, asking transfer payment partners like large urban municipalities and district school boards to find four per cent savings, while offering funding for line-by-line reviews through the Audit and Accountability Fund.
“Municipalities and district school boards now have the tools they need to find real savings and protect what matters most to the people of Ontario,” said Premier Ford. “Our government is ready and willing to roll up our sleeves and work with anyone who shares our priority of returning Ontario to fiscal health.”
Following his address, Premier Ford sat down with Matt Anderson, the President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, for a fireside chat. The discussion focused on investing in local transportation needs, ending hallway healthcare, and red tape reduction.
“The big investment bankers told us that cutting regulations is even more important than giving tax cuts,” said Premier Ford of the 380,000 provincial regulations. “We’re doing both. We’re doing the tax cuts and we are going to cut 25 per cent of the regulations on a pretty tight time-frame, by 2020.”
Premier Ford urged the business leaders present to share their expertise and come forward with their suggestions for red tape reduction.
