Sustainability on the menu at April Lunch + Learn
Posted 7 years ago on · Permalink
More than ever before, businesses understand the importance of sustainability to their business strategy but often lack the tools to get started and take meaningful steps. That’s why this month’s Lunch & Learn ̶̶ in honour of Earth Month ̶̶ focused on some concrete actions that businesses can take in order to develop sustainable business practices and help their bottom lines at the same time. EBAC Chair Don Terry co-hosted the Lunch + Learn and was pleased to welcome Sharon Smith from the Ontario Electronics Stewardship (OES).
In her remarks, Smith provided an overview of the many recycle options for end-of-life electronics currently available to businesses of all sizes through the OES programs. She also explained how her organization employs a Recycling Vendors Qualification Standard to ensure that the recycled materials are handled properly and that hazardous materials are not shipped offshore for recycling.
In his remarks, Don Terry focused on ways to foster a culture of sustainability in the workplace and how the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade’s Eco Business Program can be a great tool for businesses who want to evaluate their current efforts and implement further environmental best practices.
The event was held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Ajax and the venue graciously provided the lunch. Our monthly Lunch + Learns are free educational opportunities for members only.
