On September 3, 2014, Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade members attended a very special Lunch and Learn presented in partnership with Durham Region Police Service and the Neighbourhood Watch/Business Watch Programs at the Pickering Public Library.
The event was brought together in no small part due to the efforts of Morgen Dobson, Durham’s Regional Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator. In this capacity, her role is to encourage the development, establishment and strengthening of the nearly 200 Neighbourhood Watches in Durham Region, plus dozens of others in various stages of development.
Our guest speaker for the event was Sean Sportun, a business professional with 19 years’ experience in the loss prevention industry that has spent the last eight years as Manager of Security & Loss Prevention for Mac’s Convenience Stores Central Canada Division. He is also the vice-president of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners.
In his remarks, Mr. Sportun discussed strategies for crime prevention through community engagement using a case study from Mac’s convenience stores.
Our lunch and learns are just one of the many complimentary benefits offered exclusively to our membership. Check out more photos from the event here.
